Resources

This book makes every effort to provide a useful reference with examples for those involved or wishing to be involved with Internet email programming. It cannot even pretend to include all there is to know.

Appendix A, Internet RFCs Relating to Email lists the Internet Requests for Comments (RFCs) that were used in the preparation of this book. If any questions arise over this book’s contents, the appropriate RFC should be consulted—especially if one is coding a product! I have attempted to make some of the RFC material less academic and easier to understand, but the RFCs are still the final word as to what is “standard.”

Appendix D, Mail-Related URLs lists a number of useful Internet Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) that provide useful information on email. A little Web-surfing can yield a good overview of the industry and its directions vis-à-vis email.

Java and Perl programming references are legion. Style guides, API references, and cookbooks can be found on the Web and in books published by O’Reilly and others.
