Chapter 16 Scalable Interactive Systems

Interactive systems, especially scalable interactive systems, are hard to build. In addition to employing best practices and useful patterns, you often must come up with project-specific optimizations to fine-tune the system for a specific scenario. You also must weigh options and find a balance between throughput, latency, scalability, and cost. This chapter introduces some common techniques for improving system throughput and latency. It then discusses a couple design patterns that help address some typical challenges in interactive systems.
