If you focus solely on effectiveness in designing interactions then you become overly concerned with avoiding errors. That means you tend to slow interactions down, to provide extra information, to continually ask for confirmation, and to treat the user like an idiot just in case. Those kinds of interactions don’t feel simple, they feel stiff and robotic, as though you were talking to Mister Spock or Sheldon from Big Bang Theory.
