Overview and goals

We are witnessing a period of great worldwide urbanization and development. In populous countries such as China and India, which make up for about 40% of the World’s population, people are moving to cities at alarming rates. In China alone, it is expected that over 250 million rural inhabitants will transfer to urban areas over the next decade or so. This will necessitate creating new infrastructure to house almost the corresponding of 75% of the present population of the United States in a matter of a few decades.
