Chapter 7. Implementing Data Governance, Account Security, and Data Protection and Recovery

Much has been written about data governance and account security—two very broad topics. While this chapter isn’t intended to make you an expert on these topics, it will introduce you to many Snowflake data security features and governance tools which will give you a broader understanding and appreciation for the many ways you can implement data governance and security policies in Snowflake.

Traditionally, data governance was focused on having the right people available to execute the right processes with the right data, at the right time and with the right technology. The Data Governance 2.0 Framework, shown in Figure 7-1, extends that focus by also emphasizing business value propositions. Specifically, the area of data sharing as it relates to data discoverability offers so much business value that Chapter 11 is devoted to the topic.
