Risk: how we experience it and how we create it

Risks involve a person who wants to say something but thinks various things, including last time they, I’ll get fired, they will get angry with me, I don’t know how they will react. Another person faces the first person and thinks, they should speak up.

Speaking up happens when we trust in what we have to say and are willing to accept the risks of saying it.

You may think to yourself ‘I have something to say.’ Your next thought though is likely to be ‘ … but what will happen if I say it?’ This chapter is about risk and how our perceptions of the consequences of speaking up affect what we say – and what others say to us.
