Earlier in this chapter, you looked at the Reliability and Performance Monitor as it exists in Windows Server 2008. The Reliability and Performance Monitor is there whether SQL Server 2008 is installed on the system or not. However, SQL Server 2008 introduces its own performance toolset that Microsoft calls the Performance Studio in their various exam objectives. The Performance Studio is really just a hook into this underlying performance-gathering technology in Windows Server and the implementation of a storage mechanism known as the Management Data Warehouse (MDW).
