This chapter will touch on a variety of unions that you may encounter in the theatrical world with an emphasis on the American labor union Actors’ Equity Association (the union for actors and stage managers). It will also highlight some of the more relevant associated rules of which a stage manager should be aware. There is a common misconception that being in a union is what makes one a professional.
