So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Summary
It is virtually impossible to understand how storage networks work without understanding filing functions. As the top functional layer in any storage process, filing is responsible for determining where data objects are located within the available storage address spaces.
This chapter introduced the fundamental concepts of file system operations. It began with a discussion contrasting file systems and operating systems and then moved into a discussion of the two primary structures in file systems: the directory system and the layout reference system. The directory system allows users and applications to logically group and locate data. The layout reference system is used to locate data precisely within a storage address space.
