INSPIRED BY PAUL Duncan’s “Umbrella In The Field” photograph, John Sumrow took it indoors and put a lampshade on his head. To capture this comic self-portrait John bounced a flash off the ceiling to create some fill light. But the money for this image is under the lampshade: a flash tied to his head with a ball bungie and diffused with a coffee filter. Clever or crazy? John said the ball bungie took a few hairs with it when he took it off, but it was worth it. I think you’ll agree.
