Acknowledgments

I first want to thank Ron Petrusha, my editor, for taking a chance on an unproven author. This is the first book that I have written, and it has been a very fulfilling experience. Under Ron’s constant guidance and direction, I have grown considerably in my skill and understanding of the intricacies of writing.

I cannot thank my wife enough; she has been there, enabling me in every way possible to complete this project. Without her, I might have dismissed the idea of writing this book early on, thinking that it would be too far out of my grasp. Hearing her enthusiasm while telling others about the book that I was writing always renewed my determination and energy to finish this book.

I want to thank Mom and Dad for their support and the many long-distance phone calls they made to make sure that I was still on schedule.

I would like to thank William J. Steele, a Microsoft consultant, for taking time out of his busy schedule to discuss some of the questions and theories that I came up with while in the process of writing this book.

The technical reviewers, Daniel Creeron and J.P. Hamilton, did a wonderful job of reviewing the book’s technical material. This was no easy job, and I thank them for their valuable feedback.

Finally, I would like to thank Jessamyn Read for doing a great job in transforming the illustrations that I came up with into their final form.
