We've seen in the preceding chapters of this part that the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) defines both a framework and a specific protocol for exchanging network information on a TCP/IP internetwork. The general model used by SNMP is that of a network management station (NMS) that sends requests to SNMP agents running on managed devices.
