File and message transfer applications include the File Transfer Protocol (FTP), electronic mail (email), and the World Wide Web, which makes file and message transfer the most important category of classic TCP/IP applications. While not as glamorous as some of the application protocols we have examined so far in this section, interactive and administrative protocols are also important and worth understanding.
