CHAPTER 7AI-Enhanced PM : Supercharging Product Management with AI
The AI-Enhanced PM isn't primarily focused on building AI products or features for users. Instead, they are masters at leveraging AI to improve their own product management workflows and decision-making. Think of them as power users of AI, applying its capabilities to become more efficient, data-driven, and strategic. They are the PMs who embrace AI as a personal productivity and insight-generation tool.
This role is becoming increasingly important because AI offers a wealth of tools that can significantly enhance the practice of product management itself. The AI-Enhanced PM actively seeks out and adopts these tools, becoming a more effective and impactful product leader.
This PM collaborates with all the usual stakeholders (engineers, designers, marketing, etc.), but their relationship with data scientists and ML engineers is different from the other two PM roles. The AI-Enhanced PM is a consumer of AI tools and insights, rather than a direct collaborator on building AI models or platforms. They might provide feedback on internally built AI tools, but their primary focus is on application, not creation.
The inherent challenges in this role involve staying up-to-date with the rapidly evolving landscape of AI tools, selecting the right tools for the job, integrating them effectively into existing workflows, and critically evaluating the outputs of AI to avoid over-reliance or misinterpretation.
