So far, this book has been an account of historical cyberattacks conducted by criminals and governments. In Part II, we focus on how to hunt, track, and conduct analyses of threats similar to the examples discussed in Part I. In the process, we discuss what information to collect about an attack and how to use it to learn more about your adversary. This is an important tradecraft to perfect, and it can help you become a better defender, analyst, and investigator in significant ways. You’ll also learn how to reliably attribute an attack to a specific attacker. Finally, we’ll take these skills and apply them to the analysis of a real-world cyberattack.
