I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
1 Programming Philosophies
The automated lighting programmer must have many skills beyond knowledge of simple console syntax. The position requires evaluation of each situation to determine the correct method of operation. Some productions hire a programmer to handle all aspects of the lighting, whereas others hire a programmer to bring a lighting designer’s (LD) vision to life. Real-world experience with many productions is the only way an automated lighting programmer can become successful. Knowledge, speed, accuracy, and people skills are all also vitally important, but there is no substitute for experience.
