If you were to look at an organization that has embraced data visualization, you would see some dashboards that people use regularly and others that, despite great effort and time spent by the developers, people avoid.
Why do people gravitate toward certain dashboards? Clearly, they are providing something the audience finds useful, but if you were to dig a bit more, you would find there’s often an approach that makes these dashboards irresistible—and it isn’t packed bubbles, word clouds, or charts with lots of curvy things.
It’s personalization and, in particular, inserting the audience into the visualization.
