I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Downsides
Even though constant time retrieval sounds nice, the benchmarks show that it's not that simple. The downsides are as follows:
- Performance highly depends on the hash function and application
- Easy to implement naively, hard to get right
- Unordered storage
Some of these downsides could be mitigated by using a tree-based map, but that would be a tree as described in the previous chapter, and there is one data structure left to discuss here: the set.
