Summoning of Houses of Parliament[Article 85]
As per Article 85, President has the power to summon, either or both Houses of Parliament. Summoning is the procedure of inviting all members of the Parliament to a meeting.
It is the duty of the President to summon each House of Parliament from time to time.
While the power to summon the House is vested in the President, in practice, the proposal is initiated by the government.
The Department of Parliamentary Affairs intimates the proposed date of commencement and duration of a session to the Secretaries-General of the Council of States and the House of People.
