X Marks the Spot

Use a <Placemark> element to mark a point on the Earth’s surface. You can create a simple placemark—with a name, description, specific viewpoint, and location—with the user interface of an application such as Google Earth or Google Maps. This chapter takes you beyond the basics, so that you can create a KML file that adds special icons, more elaborate description balloons, and customized effects to your placemarks and tours.
