A relationship is a “connectedness.” The nature of the relationship determines how two people (or groups) behave toward each other, support each other, trust each other. Trusted advisors must, above all, create relationships that not only support others, but inspire them.
The Lifeline
Trusting relationships must honor confidentiality. We have learned, in the hard way, that there are no “secrets” in organizations, large or small. When we were told, “I want to share a secret with you,” it is no longer a secret and we should know immediately we are not the only ones who are privy to it.
But honoring trust and creating a lifeline for our clients means more than confidentiality. It means tough love.
