8New Brains, Same Internet: Reasoning Models for Marketers

Reasoning‐model responses are where AI stops behaving like autocomplete and starts acting like a strategist. Instead of just recalling what it already knows (training data) or phoning the web for a quick fact‐check (RAG), the model breaks your question into parts, calls on different experts, and then explains how it reached its answer.

Under the hood, many of these answers run on an MoE setup: a routing layer decides which specialist networks and external sources to consult for this specific job. That's true whether you're in DeepSeek R1, Gemini's “deep” models, or ChatGPT's reasoning models. Since 2025, reasoning‐style models have been available from every major AI platform, turning “deep thinking” from a party trick into a standard feature of AI search.

For marketers, these responses show up on the highest‐value queries—the ones where users are making decisions, weighing trade‐offs, or asking “why” and “how,” not just “what.” Your goal is to become one of the experts these systems lean on when they have to think out loud.

How Reasoning Models Use Your Content

If training‐data responses are about who you are, and RAG is about what's happening right now, reasoning responses are about what makes you expert and distinctive.

When a user makes a query to a reasoning model, it goes through a gating network. Here, the model chooses from a selection of “experts” to answer the question in the most efficient way.
