21 Both Beauty and Ugliness Are in the Eye of the Beholder

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” is an old and familiar saying. In the Introduction, the story of the Ugly Duckling was discussed as a potent metaphor for key elements of the Power of Failure. In the story a bird that was shunned and thought ugly because he was so different from the other ducks turned out to be a beautiful swan. The story can inspire us to see that emerging beautiful-swan-like successes are often simply disguised as ugly duckling short-term failures.
