Although investing in an annuity inside an IRA probably does not make sense for anyone other than the person selling you the annuity, investing some of your 401(k) money in an annuity may make sense for some people.
As always, the attraction of an annuity is to have a guaranteed investment for people who are fearful of outliving their savings. Although it is not advisable to put all of your 401(k) eggs in the annuity basket, having a portion of your 401(k) invested in an annuity may let some people sleep a bit better at night.
