In this chapter, we will be concerned with the constrained and unconstrained capacity for sending classical information over one single use of the noisy quantum channel Φ. This capacity will be called an Holevo χ-capacity. The unconstrained and constrained Holevo χ-capacities will be denoted by and , respectively. Channel capacities of various types obtained in the next four chapters are expressed in terms of Holevo χ-capacities.
