Using the generic_file_write( ) function to write in a regular Ext2 file has several beneficial effects. One of them is that the 2 GB limit on the file size is gone and very large files can be accessed even on 32-bit architectures. However, none of the features mentioned at the end of Section 17.1 has been included in Linux 2.4. They will likely come out with the new Ext3 filesystem currently being tested.
