I’m a shooter. That’s what I do. Like breathing. And listening to Neil Diamond. Now after three decades of crashing a viewfinder to my face, I’ve developed an intimate relationship with my craft, one built understandably on the power of images to tell compelling stories.
It is ironic that the quality of my images should be so dependent on sound, for no matter how glamorous my Hollywood diva may look or how sinister my Mafioso capo may appear, the lack of intelligible audio will quickly torpedo the presentation and drive the audience from its seats. Every shooter must be aware of this one inescapable fact: Audiences will tolerate bad picture but never bad sound.
