The goal of this chapter is to establish a general knowledge of virtualization best practices used with any business-critical application. Best practices depend on context and the current configuration and platform. This chapter contains areas to consider for tuning and configuration for any high throughput platform. There is always more to learn in configuring virtual infrastructures for production environments. Later, these practices will be expressed in the context of vSphere 5.5 Big Data Extensions.
