CHAPTER 8Calling Out the BS in Business—and How to Avoid It
Did you get your BS in business?
And no, I don't mean a bachelor of science degree.
Unfortunately, if you've scrolled through “entrepreneur” Instagram or watched enough YouTube videos on business, you've probably heard more than enough to earn a degree in business BS!
Many of the ideas you hear online come from people who have never actually built a business before. At most, many of the business “gurus” are in their first business—teaching people how to build a business who are teaching people how to build a business—and the huge, glaring thing that's lacking is any actual real-world business experience.
When you get misinformation from that guy who is leasing a house, buying a new car, or just rented a private jet for a few hours all while showing you the “dream life” in insta-stories to look like he's “made it,” not only does that misinformation fail to inform you of anything valuable—it actually costs you. It costs you money, time, focus, and energy by following the wrong advice from the wrong people.
So before I start breaking down the mechanics of business, I first want to bust through some of these “philosophies” you may have heard about and explain why they don't work.
