Installing Emacs
Emacs is probably the oldest IDE that’s still actively used today. Being a mature project, it has lots of features and plug-ins available, many of which don’t have counterparts in other IDEs. However, it also means that Emacs doesn’t follow any of the common patterns since it predates them.
Emacs is available for all the major platforms and can be downloaded from the official site.[71] If you’re using OS X, you may want to look at Aquamacs, which is customized for the Mac.[72]
