If you have Wi-Fi in your home or office, you already have a network. It may not be obvious because Windows doesn’t automatically share printers and folders and computers among the devices sharing a network connection. But getting computers and devices to share resources is just a matter of tweaking some settings, as you learn in this chapter.

Setting Up a Network

Most home networks resemble a spider, as shown in Figure 15-1. The thing that lets the computers all share a single internet connection is called a router. If someone else set up the Wi-Fi in your home or office, you might not know that you have a router or where it’s located. Mine is in my garage (I think). But if you have Wi-Fi, there is a router somewhere.
