How to Use Security Templates to Secure Computers by Role

The first step in using security templates to secure computers by roles is to design a template that applies the baseline security for all servers on the network. The objective of the baseline template is to tighten every aspect of computer security. It follows the principle of reducing the attack surface. This principle increases security by relying on the simple fact that the less a server is doing, the fewer potential vulnerabilities or attack surfaces will be available. After the baseline security template is applied to a server, the server will still run, but it may not be able to perform the services for a specific network role.
