Chapter 26. Why Choose Linux as Your Secure Operating System?

My first experience with Linux was in 1997 when I was looking for a more secure system to enter IRC channels on the internet without getting dropped by attacks. During my research, I found a hacking website where the author mentioned that he used Linux as his OS (operating system) and BitchX for IRC browsing. According to him, the system was like a battle tank.
I installed it and it was love at first sight. My PC became another one with the operating system. It stopped crashing or getting slow, and then I started replacing services that I professionally installed on Windows (Proxy, DNS, etc.) with equivalents using Linux.
I started to sleep better afterwards with the reduction of support tickets during nonwork hours. Linux, although new, was safe and reliable against attacks, so I decided to go deeper. Since its creation in 1991, Linus Torvalds has kept security as one the centerpieces of the operating system design, following the POSIX style (standard Unix variants).
