Chapter 64. Documentation Matters

In the age of social media and its influence, the one thing that I believe and have learned while on this information security journey is that documentation matters. I knew it did from my forensics background, but it really came into play when I decided to start sharing my journey. I highly recommend that you share your progress, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Sharing can be via a professional site such as LinkedIn, a social site such as Twitter, or a personal website and/or blog. You may think that what you have said and done has already been published. Truth is, it has, but that is not the point. Your perspective and thought processes matter and the more you share what you know, the more you grow your network and gain valuable insight because people in the community will freely share resources with you.
I cannot stress this enough. The more you share, the more you gain. I have personally used Twitter to document and share my progress and I have learned so much during my journey. I have learned that if you do not ask, the answer will always be no. Ask, and ask some more. The more you ask, the more information you obtain, and the more you can decipher for yourself what is the best decision for you. Do not focus on it being perfect because it will never be the right time, but I promise you the positives of sharing your progress ...
