CHAPTER 2

Introduction to the ESP8266

IN THIS CHAPTER I WILL COVER the ESP-01 module and the NodeMCU which are based on the ESP-12E module. Both the ESP-01 module and the NodeMCU use the ESP8266EX chip. I start by discussing the specifications of the ESP8266EX chip. Next, I discuss the ESP-01 module. I discuss the functions of each of the pins on the ESP-01. I then discuss why a logic level converter and a step voltage regulator are needed when you use the ESP-01 module with an Arduino. Next, I cover the essential AT commands that are needed in order to operate the ESP-01 module with the Arduino over a serial communications port. A hands-on example is presented where I show you how to use an ESP-01 module with an Arduino Mega 2560. Then, I ...
