Chapter 5. A Kick in the Attitude Principle #3: The Gateway to a Better Attitude Starts the Moment You Lighten Up!

A man appears before St. Peter at the pearly gates. "Have you ever done anything of particular merit?" St. Peter asks.

"Well, I can think of one thing," the man offers. "On a trip to the Black Hills, out in South Dakota, I came upon a gang of macho bikers who were threatening a young woman. I directed them to leave her alone, but they wouldn't listen. So I approached the largest and most heavily tattooed biker. I smacked him on the head, kicked his bike over, ripped out his nose ring and threw it on the ground, and told him, 'Leave her alone now or you'll answer to me."'

St. Peter was impressed and asked, "When did this happen?"

"Just a couple minutes ago," replied the man.

I love jokes like this. If there is one attitude trait that makes life worth living, it's having a sense of humor. Let me ask you, do you know anyone really uptight? Do you see it as a quality that enriches that person's life or hurts it?

The answer is obvious. I think a lot of people, honestly, are just way too wound up and miss the value of humor and its benefits. The bottom line is we need to lighten up and laugh.
