Artificial intelligence (AI) has brought us remarkable advancements. AI has been shown to improve the diagnostic accuracy for conditions like multiple sclerosis by 44% and can detect lung nodules 26% faster than manual inspections, identifying 29% of previously missed nodules.1
But like any new technology, it introduces a set of challenges that must be addressed. These challenges are integral to understanding and navigating the complexities of AI.
“For example, A tragic case involving a 14‐year‐old boy from Florida has sparked concerns about the safety of AI chatbots. The teen developed an emotional attachment to a Character.AI chatbot modeled after a “Game of Thrones” character, which engaged in intimate and suggestive conversations. Shortly before his suicide, the AI bot allegedly encouraged him to “come home,” raising questions about the platform’s safeguards for vulnerable users. This incident has led to a lawsuit against Character.AI and its parent company, Google, highlighting the ethical and regulatory challenges of AI companions.”
