Architects engaged to work on historic buildings need to understand the standard technical terms used by other stakeholders involved in the maintenance and management of heritage assets. Various publications provide glossaries, but the British Standard 7913:2013 Guide to the Conservation of Heritage Assets should be seen as providing the authoritative guide to industry standard terminology.
Alteration | Work carried out to change the function of a building, or which modifies its appearance. |
Authenticity | Authenticated characteristics of a building, revealing its historical and cultural origins. |
