Abstract
There are over a thousand different types of microcontrollers, manufactured by many companies. The choice of the best microcontroller for a particular application has become rather difficult as the user is faced with many options. Briefly, this choice depends on many factors, such as the cost, speed, power consumption, size, data width, support of peripheral devices, reliability, availability of compilers, simulators, debuggers, etc. This chapter is about the ARM family of microcontrollers and it describes the basic features of the Cortex-M, Cortex-R, and Cortex-A processors.
