Naquela altura, enviar uma mensagem eletrónica para um computador do outro lado da cidade ou do outro lado do estado podia muito bem ser magia para a maioria das pessoas. Nessa altura, o envio de mensagens electrónicas era uma novidade, mas agora é tão comum que a maioria das pessoas nem sequer pensa nisso. A minha exposição às mensagens electrónicas foi um pouco antes de se tornarem populares, mas as mensagens existem desde muito antes de eu ter nascido. A capacidade de enviar uma mensagem do dispositivo A para o dispositivo B e, em seguida, inverter esse processo e enviá-la do dispositivo B para o dispositivo A, foi e continua a ser uma das principais utilizações da Internet e dos dispositivos.
