Decommissioning, an often-forgotten task in the world of virtualization, what with it being so simple to throw new virtual machines (VMs) online with a few clicks, is the subject of this chapter. The proliferation of VMs can lead to a condition called VM sprawl. Sprawl, in turn, leads to increased management overhead because administrators must maintain each new VM.
