Abstract
Integrating modern technology into agriculture is crucial to address the demands of a growing global population. Precision agriculture is a promising solution, which focuses on optimizing crop cultivation and reducing environmental effects. However, this approach faces challenges regarding connectivity and data acquisition in remote and difficult-to-access agricultural regions. A potential solution to these challenges lies in integrating flying ad hoc networks (FANETs) into precision agriculture. A FANET consists of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) working to establish communication networks. This integration holds promise for revolutionizing precision agriculture through real-time data collection, monitoring, and rapid deployment across various agricultural terrains. The real-time implementation of a FANET in agriculture introduces complex communication routing issues. The dynamic movement of UAVs, coupled with ever-changing network structures and energy constraints, necessitates robust and adaptive communication protocols. This paper presents an analysis of the various routing protocols used for efficient communication among the UAVs. It emphasizes the application of bio-inspired routing protocols for a FANET.
