9AI-Based Cybersecurity Opportunities and Issues on the IIoT

Akashdeep Bhardwaj

Centre for Cybersecurity, School of Computer Science, UPES, Dehradun, India

Abstract

The rise of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) has brought numerous benefits to industries, including improved efficiency, automation, and cost savings. Critical infrastructure security and safety are at risk, though, as new cybersecurity issues have also been brought about by it. One solution to these challenges is the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in cybersecurity. This chapter examines the possible advantages and disadvantages of using AI in IIoT cybersecurity. The writers talk about how AI can be utilized to improve the security of IIoT systems by assisting with threat, anomaly, and cyberattack identification. This chapter also discusses some potential drawbacks that may arise from using AI in cybersecurity, including the potential for false positives or negatives, the requirement for ongoing model monitoring and updating, and the vulnerability of AI to manipulation by hostile parties. Providing a thorough grasp of the possible advantages and difficulties of AI-based cybersecurity for IIoT is the goal of this chapter, which also offers suggestions for how these technologies might be used to improve the security of vital infrastructure.
