It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

In this chapter, we will discuss the information gathering phase for penetration testing. We will describe what information gathering is and what its use is. We will also describe several tools that can be used for information gathering. After finishing this chapter, we hope that the reader will have a better understanding of the information gathering phase.
Information gathering is the second phase in our penetration testing process (Backtrack testing process) as explained in the section Backtrack testing methodology of Chapter 2.
