Chapter 4The Safety Discipline
Thomas checked his phone to ensure he was at the right location. His message from Leah was to meet at this address, which, as it turns out, is the Arboretum. He hadn't visited this location since a middle school field trip. Walking through the tunnel toward the entrance, he was immediately taken in by the full-wrap mural of floras.
Once inside the Arboretum, he found Leah waiting in her long charcoal gray driving coat with a bright red scarf and thermos in hand.
“Good morning, Thomas. Welcome to one of my favorite spots in the city.” Leah began with a beaming smile. “I thought a stroll through the grounds would be beneficial for our chat today,” she continued.
Thomas returned the smile as he extended his hand to greet Leah. “I have to admit, flowers were not on my agenda today,” he said, with a hint of amusement in his voice.
“You might be surprised how much nature can teach us about teams” Leah said with a wink as she directed Thomas toward the main path leading through the grounds. “Tell me about your week.” She asked as the two began a slow stroll along the crush granite pathway.
“The team is making progress in getting clear around what we need to accomplish,” he began. “What has stood out this week is how meaningful the work is once we made the connection for each person as to how they impact the work,” Thomas said with a sense of satisfaction.
