15.1 Introduction
Data Journalism is a new exciting feature of information dissemination in the profession of Journalism. With all the latest technological revelations, the face of journalism is changing at a faster pace, and this is swaying more and more people. The amount of infographics, statistics, interactive online content via data visualization tools like maps, tables, graphs, microsites, and visual data is found to have more impact than the usual text‐only method of storytelling. The analogy goes like if you can “correlate” you are indeed a genius. In today’s journalism, data is a pressing and can enhance the impact of any report, broadcast, write‐up, or analysis. It provides credibility to it, and the in‐depth prefix can do wonders for any journalistic organization.
Although not new to the scene, the use of technology in journalism has a record as well. In the past, computers were used to draw correlations in elections or measure any social parameter. This has come to be known as computer‐assisted reporting.
