6.2 GEOSPATIAL BIG DATA ALGORITHMS: THE STATE OF THE ART
Spatial and/or temporal algorithms are required to deal with a diversity of data types
including raster data cubes such as time series of satellite images; vector data as in
points, lines, and polygons found in, for instance, in situ mobile data sensors; and
the graphs found in, for instance, a roadmap. Given that none of these data types are
unique to any of the Vs of geospatial big data, the arsenal of algorithmic approaches
required is vast. Consider, for example, the following list of use cases in which spa-
tiotemporal big data algorithms are required to be applied (Shekhar et al. 2003):
