The sharemarket is swimming in numbers. There are revenues, profits, costs, dividends, ratios, indexes, salaries, models and forecasts all based on numbers. To the average person on the street this is utterly confusing, thoroughly incomprehensible and possibly the single biggest reason why people throw up their hands and give their money to professionals. They think numbers are nasty and should be avoided at all times. Market insiders thrive in this environment because it opens a window to charging the general public hefty fees. The retail investor looks on in bewilderment and believes that only the smart guys can get their minds around all the numbers.
