It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Chapter 5. Setting Up a Wireless Studio
When you find your Speedlite gear outgrowing its share of space in your camera bag, it may be time to start building a portable studio kit of your own and devoting a separate bag or case for your lighting equipment. Because of their small size, you can easily pack in a few Speedlites and still have room for stands, remote triggers, gels, extra rechargeable batteries, umbrellas, and other light modifiers.
This chapter addresses some of the concerns of setting up a small studio in your home for portraits and products, and offers some ideas for building a traveling, small-flash studio lighting kit. I created just such a kit for my location work after years of lugging around several cases of studio flash and monolight equipment, and it amazes me to this day that I can nearly replicate all that gear in just one bag.
With one Speedlite and some household items such as a paint tray, sandwich baggie, and some colored paper, you can easily create dynamic images right in your own home studio.
