So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Traditional WAN networking involved dedicated circuits running Frame Relay or leased lines. Although prices have recently decreased, the cost of these private circuits continues to be relatively high.
In addition to dedicated WAN connections, corporations had to maintain large banks of dialup modems (or outsource the dial-in to a vendor) so that workers could remotely access the corporate network with modems.
